Visio2002: Properties Dialog Box for VENT Shapes Is Not Displayed as Expected (303552)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to view properties on a Microsoft Visio Enterprise Network Tools (VENT) shape, the Properties dialog box may not be displayed as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Visio Enterprise Network Tools is installed as part of either of the following installations:
  • Microsoft Visio Professional 2002 without the solutions installed -or-

  • Microsoft Visio Standard 2002
NOTE: VENT is an add-in program for Visio Professional 2002. If you install this add-in with Visio Standard, you experience reduced and lost functionality.

RESOLUTION

There is no way to see the Properties dialog box for these shapes in Visio Standard 2002. Visio Enterprise Network Tools (VENT) is designed for use with Visio Professional 2002. To turn on the Properties dialog box in Visio Professional 2002, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.

  3. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Visio Professional 2002.
  4. Click Add/Remove.
  5. Click Add or Remove Features, and then click Next.
  6. Click Solutions, and then click Run from My Computer.
  7. Click Install, and then insert the Visio Professional CD-ROM into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. Follow the instructions to complete the installation.
  8. On the Install/Uninstall tab, click Microsoft Visio Enterprise Network Tools.
  9. Click Add/Remove.
  10. Click Uninstall All, click Next, and then click Yes.
  11. Reinstall Visio Enterprise Network Tools.
