Links 2001: Cameras do not work as expected (303497)

After you install the Microsoft Links 2001 Update v1.21, the cameras may not work as expected when you play Links 2001. One or more of the following behaviors may occur:
- You cannot resize the camera view windows.
- You cannot move the camera view windows.
- You cannot close the camera view windows.
CAUSE
This issue may occur if both your Microsoft Windows and your Links 2001 screen resolutions are set to 800 by 600 pixels.
Note This behavior does not occur when both Windows and Links 2001 use the same resolution setting other than 800 by 600. For example, this behavior does not occur when both Windows and Links 2001 use a screen resolution setting of 1024 by 768 pixels.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
Method 1: Make Adjustments in Windowed Mode- With Links running, press ALT+ENTER to put Links 2001 in windowed mode.
- Move the frozen window or camera view, or close it.
- Press ALT+ENTER again to return Links 2001 to full-screen mode.
Method 2: Change Windows Screen Resolution
If you want to play Links 2001 and use a screen resolution setting of 800 by 600 pixels, change the Windows resolution setting to something other than 800 by 600. To do this, follow these steps:
- Quit all the programs that are running.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Display.
- In the Display Properties dialog box, click the Settings tab.
- Under Screen area, drag the slider to a setting other than 800 by 600 pixels. For example, select 1024 by 768 pixels.
- Click OK, and then click OK on the Display Properties message that appears.
- On the You resized your desktop. Do you want to keep this setting? message that appears, if the desktop is displayed correctly, click Yes.
Note If the desktop is not displayed correctly, your monitor may be unable to display the selected screen resolution. In this case, click No, and then select a different resolution setting.
Method 3: Change Links 2001 Screen Resolution
If Windows is configured with the resolution setting of 800 by 600 pixels, change the Links 2001 resolution setting to something other than 800 by 600. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Links 2001.
- On the Links 2001 menu screen that appears, click Options.
- On the Options screen, click Graphic Settings.
- On the Graphic Settings tab, click a setting other than 800 by 600 under Display Mode, and then click OK.
You receive the following message:You have changed your video mode. Links will now
restart with the new mode. Do you want to
continue? - Click Yes, and then click OK to keep the display settings.
- Click Back to return to the main menu.
Method 4: Remove and Then Reinstall Links 2001 Into a Different Folder
If the issue continues to occur, remove Links 2001, and then install it into a different folder:
Remove Links 2001- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
Note In Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, click the Install/Uninstall tab. - Click the Install/Uninstall tab.
- In the list of installed programs, double-click Microsoft Links 2001, and then click Uninstall.
- Follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the removal process. The computer may stop responding (hang).
Delete the Links 2001 Folder- Start Windows Explorer, and then locate the c:\Program Files\Microsoft Games folder.
Note This path may vary on your computer. - In the Microsoft Games folder, right-click Links 2001, and then click Delete.
- When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
- Close the Microsoft Games folder.

Reinstall the Game Into a New Folder- Insert the Links 2001 CD into your CD or DVD
drive.
Note If Setup does not start automatically:- Click Start, click Run, type CD-ROM drive letter:\setup.exe, in the Open box.
- Click OK.
- Click Install, and then click Next.
- Click Change.
- In the Path box, delete the existing path, and then type drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Links2001, where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which you want to install Links 2001.
- Click OK. When you receive a prompt to create the folder, click Yes.
- Select the type of installation you want, and then click Install.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation process.
