Option to Restore the Previous Windows Configuration Is Not Available in Add/Remove Programs (303485)

When you attempt to uninstall Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 by using Add/Remove Programs, the Restore the previous Windows configuration option may not be available. Rather, the only available option is Repair Internet Explorer.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you reinstall Internet Explorer 6 after installing a Microsoft Windows 2000 service pack. For example, this behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true and occur in the given order:
- You install Internet Explorer 6.
- You install a Windows 2000 service pack.
- You reinstall Internet Explorer 6.
- You uninstall the Windows 2000 service pack that you installed in step 2.
WORKAROUND
To work around this issue, perform an inplace upgrade of Windows 2000, and then reinstall the latest Windows 2000 service pack and latest version of Internet Explorer.
To perform an inplace upgrade, follow these steps:
- Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM in your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
- In the CD Autorun dialog box, click Install Windows 2000.
- In the Windows 2000 Setup dialog box, click Upgrade to Windows 2000 (Recommended), and then follow the directions to reinstall Windows 2000.
