No Multilingual Menus and Dialog Boxes for Internet Explorer After Upgrading to Windows XP Home Edition (303428)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition from Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) with the Multilingual Menus and Dialog Boxes for Internet Explorer component installed, you cannot configure Windows XP Home Edition to display menus and dialog boxes for Internet Explorer, Microsoft Outlook Express, or the Windows Address Book in the non-English language you used in Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, or Windows Me.

CAUSE

Windows XP Home Edition does not support the Multilingual User Interface (MUI) that is required to display Internet Explorer or Outlook Express menus and dialog boxes in another language. This functionality is supported in Microsoft Windows XP Professional. This behavior does not affect Microsoft Office 2000 or Microsoft Office XP programs. These programs still have MUI functionality if you install them either before or after upgrading to Windows XP Home Edition.

RESOLUTION

To use MUI functionality in Windows, Internet Explorer, and Outlook Express, upgrade to Windows XP Professional.
