MSMQ Queues Are Inaccessible After You Add the EnhancedSecurityLevel Registry Key (303341)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Message Queue Server (MSMQ) 1.0

This article was previously published under Q303341

SYMPTOMS

After you add the EnhancedSecurityLevel registry key, you may not be able to see or access any queues from MQExplorer. Also, you may not be able to send messages to queues on the computer where this registry entry is enabled.

CAUSE

When this registry key is enabled, the caller of the object is verified to be in Kernel mode, or that the access requested for the object matches the access when the object was opened. In this case, the access that was requested was not identical.

MORE INFORMATION

The EnhancedSecurityLevel registry key is set in the registry under the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM Key\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session manager

This key ensures that Object Manager can change the attributes of a kernel object in the Object table for the current process if the previous mode of the caller is Kernel mode.
