SYMPTOMS

Your Internet search results are displayed in the main Internet Explorer window, instead of the Search bar.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Search Companion feature in Microsoft Windows XP, which is enabled by default in Internet Explorer for Windows XP, does not display its search results in the Search bar.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, change the Internet search behavior of your browser so that you use the Classic Internet Search feature. For additional information about changing your Internet search behavior, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
