This article was previously published under Q303277

SYMPTOMS

When you receive an error message while you are using Windows Media Player for Windows XP on a computer with Multilingual User Interface (MUI) installed, you may receive an English language error message instead of an error message in the MUI language you previously selected.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if the system code page is set to English and the MUI language is set to a non-English language.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, change the system code page to match the MUI language:
  1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Regional and Language Options.
  3. Click the Advanced tab.
  4. Under Language for non-Unicode programs, change the language selection to match the MUI language.
  5. Click OK, and then follow the instructions on the screen.
  6. Restart your computer.
NOTE: If you set the system code page language to English, you should receive most error messages in English.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
