SideWinder: Error Message: The Disk Labeled X2 Disk Description Is Required, Please Insert the Disk (303183)

SYMPTOMS

When you connect your Microsoft SideWinder device to the Universal Serial Bus (USB) port on your computer, you may receive the following error message:
The disk labeled X2 Disk Description is required, please insert the disk. The disk is provided by your disk manufacturer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the installation of the SideWinder software was not completed correctly. The error message occurs because Windows is unable to locate the Stubset.exe setup file on the CD-ROM.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Connect the SideWinder device to your computer's USB port.
  2. When you receive the error message described in the "Symptoms" section of this article, insert the Sidewinder CD-ROM (that came with the device) into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive.
  3. Click browse, and then browse to the root folder of the Sidewinder CD-ROM (where the Stubset.exe setup file is located). Press ENTER.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the setup of your SideWinder device.
