SYMPTOMS When you attempt to install any of the programs listed in
the "Applies to" section of this article, Setup may proceed to a certain point
and then perform a rollback. As a result, you are unable to complete the
installation. When you run Setup again, you may receive an error message
similar to the following Installer 2755.1641 error -
x:\win\installer\4bfe.msi where
x is the letter of the drive on which you are
installing the program. NOTE: The path that is displayed in the message that you receive may
be different from the path given here. CAUSE This behavior occurs when Windows Installer does not assign
the appropriate permissions to the registry keys that are created during setup.
As a result, you do not have the appropriate permissions to write to the
registry and complete the installation, even if you are logged on as
Administrator.
This behavior can occur on either Microsoft Windows
2000 or Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computers that have a central processing
unit (CPU) of greater than 1.4 gigahertz (GHz). RESOLUTION To resolve this issue, run Setup for the program that you
want to install, and then use the registry editor to assign the appropriate
permissions to the program registry keys. To do this, follow these steps:
- Insert the Picture It! Publishing compact disc into your
computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive. If Setup starts automatically, follow the
instructions on the Setup screen to install the program.
If Setup
does not start automatically, follow these steps:
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type x:\pip\setup.exe
(where x is the letter of your CD-ROM
or DVD-ROM drive), and then click OK.
- Follow the instructions on the Setup screen to begin
the installation.
- When you receive the error message described in the
"Symptoms" section of this article, quit the Windows Installer.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedt32, and then click OK.WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious
problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft
cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry
Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
- Locate the following registry keys:
- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Picture It!
Publishing
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Picture It!
Publishing
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shoebox
- For each of the keys listed in step 5, assign Full Control permissions to the Administrators group:
- On the Security menu, click Permissions.
- Under Name, click Administrators.
- Under Permissions, click to select the Allow check box for Full Control, and then click OK.
- On the Registry menu, click Exit to quit the Registry Editor.
- Reinstall Picture It! Publishing.
