SYMPTOMS

After you install Internet Explorer 6, the Radio toolbar (which is on Internet Explorer 5.0 or later) is unavailable, but the Always show Internet Explorer (5.0 or later) Radio toolbar option may still be displayed on the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because the Radio toolbar is not available in Internet Explorer 6. The functionality of the Radio toolbar has been replaced by the Media bar. As a result, Internet Explorer 6 removes the Always show Internet Explorer (5.0 or later) Radio toolbar option from the Advanced tab of the Internet Options dialog box. However, this option may be added back to the Advanced tab in the Internet Options dialog box if you install certain versions of Windows Media Player.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, if you are running Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), or Microsoft Windows 2000, you can use the Media bar, instead of the Radio toolbar. If you are running Microsoft Windows NT 4.0, both the Radio toolbar and the Media bar are unavailable.
To remove the Always show Internet Explorer (5.0 or later) Radio toolbar option from the Advanced tab, edit the Windows registry to remove the RADIO subkey. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Quit all running programs.
  2. On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box, type Regedit, and then click OK.
  4. In Registry Editor, expand the following registry subkey:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AdvancedOptions\MULTIMEDIA\RADIO

  5. Right-click the RADIO subkey and then on the shortcut menu that appears, click Delete. The following message appears:

    Are you sure you want to delete this key and all of its subkeys?

  6. Click Yes.
  7. On the File menu, click Exit.
The Always show Internet Explorer (5.0 or later) Radio toolbar check box no longer appears in the Internet Options dialog box.

STATUS
