SYMPTOMS

A custom solution that uses a scripting language to automate Outlook or Word may cause a fatal error in the application that is hosting the script.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when both of the following conditions are met:
  • Symantec's Nortion AntiVirus 2001 is installed, and its Script Blocking feature is enabled. -and-

  • The code attempts to automate Outlook or Word a second time. For example, if the following line of code is called twice, the error occurs:
    Set x = CreateObject("Word.Applicaton")

To work around this problem, disable the Script Blocking feature in Norton AntiVirus. For more information on disabling this feature, refer to the Norton AntiVirus documentation.
