SYMPTOMS

When a "fnevNewMail | fnevExtended" event mask is set in an Advise() call to the store, new mail notification may not work.

CAUSE

This problem can occur because of an un-initialized variable in Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 1 (SP1).

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

NOTE: Because of file dependencies, this update requires Microsoft Exchange Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
To work around this problem, use a "fnevNewMail" event mask instead of the "fnevNewMail | fnevExtended" event mask; if you do so, new mail notification works.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server SP1. This problem was first corrected in Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server Service Pack 2.
