SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to resume your computer after midnight, or if you are using your computer at midnight, your computer may stop responding (hang).
If you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE, Msgsrv32 may appear as not responding.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if you have Norton AntiVirus installed on your computer.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, use the following methods in the order shown. Caution These steps will turn off some or all of the Norton AnitVirus functionality. - Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type regedit.
- Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD.
- Right-click NAVAP.VXD, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu.
When the confirmation message appears, click Yes. - Repeat step 4 to delete SYMVNT.386.
- Quit the Registry Editor.
Method 2
Uninstall Norton AntiVirus. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs, click Norton AntiVirus in the list, and then click the Add/Remove button.
- Follow the instructions to completely remove Norton AntiVirus from your computer.
