  • Microsoft Extended Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI)
  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5
  • Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server

This article was previously published under Q302807

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to restrict a multi-valued property in Microsoft Exchange Message Store Provider, you may receive the following error message:
MAPI_E_TOO_COMPLEX (0x80040117)

CAUSE

Exchange Message Store Provider does not support property restriction on multi-valued properties.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

Multi-valued properties can be used in property restrictions if the service provider that is implementing the table supports them. If supported, multi-valued property tags can be used anywhere single-valued property tags can be used. For example, the Exchange Address Book Provider supports restrictions on multi-valued properties.
