No Notification on Console When Computer Is Shut Down by Remote Desktop User (302795)

SYMPTOMS

When a user that is logged into a remote desktop session shuts down or restarts the computer, the console does not generate any notification of this action. Instead, the display turns black, and the computer restarts or shuts down. Between the time that the shutdown or restart process begins and the time that the computer shuts down, you can log on to the console and start programs. This may create confusion when a user who is logging on to use the computer sees the computer shutdown or restart unexpectedly.

This behavior is by design.

In an administrative role, all users (including the console session) should be notified of an impending shutdown attempt by using the Terminal Services Manager tool. To do so:
  1. Start Terminal Services Manager from Administrative Tools.
  2. Hold down CTRL, and then click all active users to select them. Note that the State column shows which users are active.
  3. Right-click one of the selected active users, and then click Send Message.
  4. Type a message in the Message box, and then click OK.
