SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install America Online (AOL), you may receive an error message similar to the following:
Setup caused a general protection fault in module Setup.exe at 0002:000029c2

CAUSE

This issue can occur if your computer date and time are incorrectly set.

NOTE: This behavior can occur when your computer's current date setting is a future year.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, reset the computer's date and time:
  1. On the taskbar, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel, double-click Date/Time.
  3. In the Date/Time Properties dialog box, set the date and time to the correct date and time, click Apply, and then click OK.
  4. Reinstall AOL.
