The 3D Text or the 3D Flying Objects screen saver may display a blank screen in Windows XP (302587)

SYMPTOMS

When you run either the 3D Text or the 3D Flying Objects screen saver on Windows XP, you may receive a blank black screen instead of the screen saver that you selected. Additionally, when you run the 3D Flying Objects screen saver and you choose the Windows flag, the flag may not show the words "Windows XP," and it will lose its 3D texture. However, you can return to the desktop.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when you use the Multimon.exe program with any Direct 3D-capable video adapter such as a G200, G300, or G400 video adapter.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, disable the display on the monitor that is not the primary monitor.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section.

The condition that is described in the Symptoms section has been reported at several screen resolutions in a multi-mon configuration, including 640x480 and 1280x1024 with a Matrox G200 and an Nvidia Quadro 2x.
To adjust the display settings on the screen saver, follow these steps:
  1. Click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Screen Saver tab.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Click Display Settings.
  6. Use the drop-down menu in the Display Settings section to select a display setting that has a resolution higher than 640x480.
