The Standard Icon for the Games Folder on the Start Menu May Not Be Displayed on Your Pocket PC (302575)

SYMPTOMS

When you delete the Games folder from the Start menu on a Pocket PC, and then you replace that folder, a standard icon may not be displayed on the Start menu. Instead, a standard folder icon may be displayed.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the hidden file, Icon.lnk, is missing from the Program Files\Games folder. The Icon.lnk file is used to display the icon for the Games folder on the Start menu.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, connect the device to the host computer, and then start the ActiveSync program:
  1. In ActiveSync, click Explore to open Mobile Device Explorer.
  2. Double-click My Pocket PC.
  3. Double-click the Windows folder.
  4. Locate and right-click the Gamesico file, and then click Copy.
  5. Double-click the Start Menu folder.
  6. Double-click the Programs folder.
  7. Double-click the Games folder.
  8. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  9. Right-click the Gamesico file, and then click Rename.
  10. Rename the Gamesico file to "icon" (without the quotes), and then press ENTER.
  11. Click Yes to confirm your changes. The next time that you locate the Programs folder from the Start menu, the correct icon for the Games folder is displayed.
