You Cannot Install the MSDN Version of Windows 2000 Using Setup Boot Disks (302520)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q302520 SYMPTOMS When you use the Setup Boot Disks for Windows 2000 to
install the MSDN version of Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, or
Windows 2000 Advanced Server, you may receive the following error message:
Setup cannot find the End User Licensing Agreement
(EULA). Setup cannot continue. To quit, press F3 CAUSE This issue occurs because the Setup Boot Disks for Windows
2000 are not supported for use with the MSDN version of Windows 2000. The MSDN
version of Windows 2000 is a DVD-ROM and the folder structure is different from
the standard retail version of Windows 2000. RESOLUTION To install the MSDN version of Windows 2000 Professional,
Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2000 Advanced Server, use one of the following
methods:
- Start the computer using a startup disk that loads real
mode CD-ROM drivers (for example, a Microsoft Windows 98 Startup Disk), and
then run Winnt.exe.
-or- - Start the computer using another operating system if one is
available, and then run Winnt32.exe.
MORE INFORMATION The MSDN version of Windows 2000 is not a bootable DVD-ROM,
and it has a larger capacity than a standard CD-ROM. The DVD-ROM contains
Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, and Windows 2000 Advanced
Server.
You may also experience similar installation issues if you
try to install Windows using a CD-ROM that has been created (burned) using the
source files from the MSDN Windows 2000 DVD-ROM. This issue occurs because the
MSDN DVD-ROM contains modified setup files to account for the specific folder
structure on the DVD-ROM.
