PRB: Text Missing When You Print "Selected Heading and All Subtopics" from HTML Help (302505)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft HTML Help 1.3

This article was previously published under Q302505

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Print the selected heading and all subtopics option with a main Help topic from an HH.exe version of the Help system, which is included in Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Office 2000, and MSDN Library editions dated October 2001 and earlier, text that is supposed to wrap to the next line is dropped from the print job. This problem occurs regardless of the font, font size, page setup, and print options that you specify.

You can print individual items without any problem. The problem only occurs when you select multiple items from a main topic.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a known limitation of the HH.exe viewer.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, you can use the temporary .htm file that is created in the system's temporary file folder prior to printing. The file name and location is usually noted at the bottom of the page. To access and print this file:
  1. Prepare to print as usual, but do not click Print in the Print dialog box.
  2. Open the newly created *.htm file in the temporary system folder. This is usually in C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Local Settings\Temp\. (Double-click this folder, and it will open in Microsoft Internet Explorer.)
  3. On the File menu, click Print.
  4. Select the printer and other setting that you want to use.
  5. Click Print.
The resulting printout will not be missing any of the Help text for terms that you selected.

STATUS

This problem was corrected in HTML Help version 2.2.

(This new version is included in the January 2002 MSDN Library.)

  3. Right-click this topic, and then click Print on the shortcut menu.
