Placeholder properties stipulate the type of attachment content that can be added into the placeholder. The most common uncertainty lies in the configuration for the multipurpose placeholder properties, particularly when the placeholder is to disallow images, text, or videos. The fact that the placeholder is multipurpose means that certain HTML tags are accepted.
CAUSE
The Object Model is a general purpose Publishing API that is responsible for ensuring that HTML does not contain tags that are disallowed by the template designer. However, in cases where an icon is represented by a <img> tag, or a hyperlink by text, or an attachment by an <a> tag, the Object Model cannot distinguish between images, text, or attachments respectively; therefore, it does not strip them out. In some cases, where one would expect the conversion of images to attachments in a "no images" multipurpose placeholder, for example, the conversion does not occur and the image is viewed in the preview when saved.
RESOLUTION
The best practice in order to avoid the ambiguity around multipurpose placeholder configuration is to allow images and text attachments.
MORE INFORMATION
