Visio2000: Some Layers in AutoCAD Drawing Are Lost During Conversion (302100)

SYMPTOMS

When you open an AutoCAD drawing that contains hidden layers in Microsoft Visio, and then you attempt to convert all of those layers to Visio format, some of the layers may not be converted.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
  1. You open an AutoCAD drawing with multiple layers.

    -and-
  2. You convert the AutoCAD drawing to Visio format.

    -and-
  3. Some of the layers are not visible.
Layers that are not visible when an AutoCAD drawing is converted are lost during conversion.

RESOLUTION

To convert AutoCAD drawings with hidden layers, follow these steps:
  1. Start Visio.
  2. On the File menu, click Open.
  3. Select the AutoCAD drawing, and then click Open.
  4. On the Layers tab, click in the Visible column next to each layer that is not visible, and then click OK.
  5. Right-click any shape in the drawing, point to CAD Drawing Object, and then click Convert.
  6. Click Select All, and then click Next.
  7. Click to select the Delete selected DWG layers check box, and then click Finish.
  8. Right-click anywhere in the drawing, point to View, and then click Layer Properties.
  9. Adjust the Visibility or Lock settings for each layer as needed.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
