SUMMARY

This article describes how to modify the registry to support Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) types.

MORE INFORMATION

NCompass Resolution 4.0 reads the registry on the server to map between file extensions and MIME types. If a MIME type cannot be determined, the system administrator can resolve the problem by editing the registry on the server. The key to edit (using a .gif image as an example) is the following:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif
Content Type = "image/gif"

For a Microsoft Word document, edit the following registry key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc

By editing the registry on the NCompass Resolution 4.0 server, the system administrator can ensure that the MIME types in the registry match those in the NCompass Resolution 4.0 database.
