PRB: Upgrading to Enterprise Edition from Standard Edition Does Not Resolve Organization Limit (301648)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Standard Edition of BizTalk Server to the Enterprise Edition, and then attempt to create more than five organizations, you may receive the following error message:

The organization could not be saved.
Error 0xC0C01302: Microsoft BizTalk Server 2000 Standard Edition does not support more than five organizations. You must delete at least one of the current organizations before you can create a new one.

CAUSE

This error can occur if the Internet Information Services (IIS) Service on the BizTalk computer is not restarted after you upgrade to the Enterprise Edition of BizTalk Server. IIS loads the BTMInternal.dll file into memory, and the BTMInternal.dll file caches the SKU setting into its member variable. When you install BizTalk Server, Enterprise Edition after you uninstall the Standard Edition, the new version of BTMInternal.dll still has the old SKU setting.

RESOLUTION

After you uninstall the Standard Edition of BizTalk Server, restart your BizTalk Server computer or restart IIS before you install the Enterprise Edition of BizTalk Server.
