You receive a "FrontPage Runtime Component Page" message when you click "Submit" on a form in FrontPage 2000 (301591)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft FrontPage 2000

SYMPTOMS

When you click Submit on a form in Microsoft FrontPage, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
FrontPage Runtime Component Page

You have submitted a form or followed a link to a page that requires a Web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions to function properly.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the FrontPage Web that you are testing is a disk-based Web. That is, your Web is located on a file server and has not been published to a Web server through Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). Some features of FrontPage Web components, including forms, are displayed and work correctly only when the Web pages containing them are accessed through a Web server, rather than through a file server or your local computer. If you develop your Web site by using a disk-based Web, you may not be able to confirm that forms and other Web elements function correctly unless you test the components by publishing your disk-based Web to an HTTP server with the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, publish your FrontPage Web to a Web server, or test the form directly on the Web server.
