SYMPTOMS
You may receive an access violation in Update.exe when you install Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the default value in the following registry value has been changed to a valid path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Setup\Drivercachepath RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the

The default value is:

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. This problem was first corrected in Windows 2000 Service Pack 3.
