XADM: Results of a Search for a Word That Contains DBCS Characters May Contain Unexpected Items (300997)

SYMPTOMS

When you search for a word that contains double-byte character set (DBCS) characters in a folder on an Exchange 2000 server, the search results may contain unexpected items.

CAUSE

Exchange 2000 compares Unicode strings in byte when Exchange 2000 searches in a folder. This problem can occur if two characters are side-by-side; the side-by-side characters can create an incorrect match.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
