SUMMARY

The minimum audio sample rate that Windows Media Encoder can handle when converting an existing file is 8 kHz. If the audio sample rate on the source file is lower, you may receive the following error after you select the source file:
The input media format is invalid (0xC00D0BB8)

This behavior is by design.

To determine the audio sample rate on the source file, follow these steps:
  1. Open Sound Recorder. To do this, click Start, click Run, type Sndrec32.exe, and click OK.
  2. Open the source file.
  3. On the File menu, click Properties.
The audio sample rate is listed in the Properties dialog box. If this rate is lower than 8 kHz, the file must be regenerated with an audio sample rate of at least 8 kHz before encodeding in Windows Media Encoder.
