PRB: Dial-up Networking Link Speed is Incorrect with ADSL Modem (300481)

SYMPTOMS

When you use an ADSL modem, the connected line speed that displays in the Dial-up Networking Connection Status dialog box is incorrect.

A Microsoft Windows 98-based computer displays:

"Connected at [large integer] bps."

A Microsoft Windows ME-based computer displays:

"Connected at 9600 bps."

CAUSE

Dial-up Networking (DUN) obtains the line speed value prior to the ADSL modem getting trained; therefore, the line speed value is unknown and displays incorrectly.

RESOLUTION

There in no current work around for this problem.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
