SYMPTOMS
When you try to specify a default system sound in the Sounds tool in Control Panel, the Default option may be missing.
CAUSE
This issue can occur if the following registry keys are missing or incomplete:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\.Default
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\AppEvents\Schemes\Apps\.Default\.Default RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, use Registry Editor to verify that the following registry keys exist (exactly as they appear here), and if needed, create or edit them:
