This article was previously published under Q300365

SYMPTOMS

If you edit the properties of a SQL Server 2000 Data Transformation Services (DTS) File Transfer Protocol task, by using these steps, you are stuck in the empty folder:
  1. Create a new DTS package, and then add a File Transfer Protocol task.
  2. In the Source drop-down list box, click to select Internet Site.
  3. In the FTP site text box, type the address of a site with an empty folder. The address does not include backslashes before the server name.
  4. In the FTP task, click the Files tab, and then double-click the empty folder.
The option to move back to the FTP root directory or up one level is not available and is not reset by switching to another tab and then back to the Location tab. This problem does not occur if the directory is not empty.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this problem, add a placeholder (dummy) file in the empty folders on your FTP site.

If you have already experienced this problem, you have two options:

  • Switch back to the Location tab. Perform a dummy edit of the FTP Site text box so that the tool can tell a change occurred. When you move back to the Files tab, you are back at the root of the location you selected. Do not move to the empty folder. -or-

  • Click Cancel. All changes you have made since you opened the task for editing will be lost. Edit the properties of the FTP task again and do not move to the empty folder.
