Temporary Loss of DCAM Database Connection May Cause Loss of Event Data (300327)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q300327

SYMPTOMS

If network or server issues cause the Database Access Server/Consolidator-Agent Manager(DCAM) to lose connection to the Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) database, events that are logged under normal conditions may not be reported.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

When the DCAM cannot connect to the database, the system logs either Event ID 25101 or Event ID 25102. The content of the associated error messages is as follows:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: OnePoint Operations
Event Category: None
Event ID: 25101
Description: Failed to insert events into the database. Will retry every 30 seconds.
Details: IDispatch error #3222
Event Type: Error
Event Source: OnePoint Operations
Event Category: None
Event ID: 25102
Description: Unrecoverable database errors occurred during event or alert insertion. Some data may have been lost. The system will attempt to continue processing events and alerts.
Details: Error information has 1 rows and 6 columns.Err 0: op = 0, HRESULT = 80004005, Description = Unspecified error, SQL native = 0, SQL description = , Method name = EventBulkInsertFound 1 errors, 0 were collisions.
Event ID 25101 is a recoverable event. When the DCAM can reconnect to the database, the following event is logged on the DCAM:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: OnePoint Operations
Event Category: None
Event ID: 25110
Description: Event and alert insertion have resumed after a recoverable error. Last error details: IDispatch error #3222
However, Event ID 25102 is not recoverable. This event can keep events from being written to the MOM database.
