Performance Messages Are Lost If the Network Between the DCAM and the Database Is Down (300324)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q300324

SYMPTOMS

If the Database Access Server/Consolidator/Agent Manager (DCAM) and the database components are installed on separate computers, messages that are generated by performance-processing rules are lost if the network connection between the Consolidator and the database is not available.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the agent pushes local performance data directly into the insertion queue on the Consolidator computer. If the connection to the database is not available, one of the two insertion buffers is locked for insertion; the other insertion buffer may fill up quickly. If this occurs, all performance-data processing stops until the database comes back online.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
