Pending Installation Node Still Shows Computers Whose Names Have Changed (300287)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Operations Manager 2000

This article was previously published under Q300287

SYMPTOMS

If you modify the name of a computer between the time when Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) discovers it and the time when the MOM agent is installed, the list of Pending Installation computers may show both the old name and the new name.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, remove the computers that do not exist (the computers that are listed by their former names) from the Pending Installation list:
  1. Go to the Agent Managers node, right-click Agent Managers, and then click Properties.
  2. Click the Managed Computer Rules tab.
  3. For each of the nonexistent computers, add a new rule, click Exclude, and then add the name of the computer.
  4. Close the Agent Manager properties dialog box. When you are prompted to start a scan, click OK.
  5. After the scan runs, verify that the agent computers are no longer displayed in the Pending Installation node.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
