Error Loading Ommlearn.dll After Reinstallation of Outlook Mobile Manager (300264)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to start Microsoft Outlook after you install Outlook Mobile Manager, you may receive the following error message:
The add-in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Outlook Mobile Manager\ommlearn.d..." could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help menu. Unable to load "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Outlook Mobil...". You may be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file.
If you click OK, Outlook starts, but there is no menu option or toolbar buttons for Mobile Manager.

CAUSE

An incorrect reference to the Ommlearn.dll file in the registry may cause this error message to be displayed. This behavior may also be caused by a damaged or missing Ommlearn.dll file. This behavior may most often occur when you have installed Outlook Mobile Manager, and then uninstalled it or reinstalled it to a different folder without having started Outlook to allow the registry settings for add-ins to be detected.

WORKAROUND

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To prevent this issue from occurring, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Change the reference to the file in the registry:
  1. Quit all programs.
  2. Click Start, and then click Run.
  3. In the Open box type, regedit.exe.
  4. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions

  5. In the right pane, find Value Name "Outlook Mobile Manager Extensions". Double-click this item to edit the value.
  6. Change the Value Data to the correct folder in which Outlook Mobile Manager was reinstalled, for example: C:\Microsoft Outlook Mobile Manager.
  7. Quit Registry Editor.
  8. Restart Outlook.

Method 2

  1. Close Outlook and all other running applications.
  2. Remove Outlook Mobile Manager, and reinstall it in the default directory: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Outlook Mobile Manager.
  3. Restart Outlook.

Method 3

  1. Close Outlook and all other running applications.
  2. Remove Outlook Mobile Manager, and then restart Outlook to refresh the list of add-ins.
  3. Close Outlook, and then reinstall Outlook Mobile Manager in the location that you want.
  4. Restart Outlook.
If after going through any of these methods, you do not see the Mobile Manager icons or menu choices in Outlook:
  1. Click Options on the Tools menu, click Other, click Advanced, and then click Add-in Manager.
  2. In the Add-in Manager, you will see an extension for Outlook Mobile Manager. Click to clear this extension check box, click OK, and then quit Outlook.
  3. Restart Outlook, open the Add-in Manager, and click to select the Outlook Mobile Manager extension check box.
  4. After you click OK, you should see the menu choices.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
