FP2000: Error Message: There Is No Web Named <Subweb Name> (300246)
The information in this article applies to:
- FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions from Microsoft
- Microsoft FrontPage 98 for Windows
This article was previously published under Q300246 SYMPTOMS
When you attempt to perform a Check Server Extensions operation on your FrontPage Web, you may receive an error message similar to the following:
There is no web named subweb name CAUSE
This behavior can occur when the Services.cnf file in the root Web folder contains entries for a subweb that no longer exists in your FrontPage Web. This occurs when you do not use FrontPage or the FrontPage Administrative Tools to delete the subweb. For example, you delete the subweb by using Windows Explorer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, edit the Services.cnf file to remove the entry for the subweb that was identified by the message described earlier in this article. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Windows Explorer, and then browse to the root content folder of your Web.
- Locate the vti_pvt folder.
The Services.cnf file is located in the x:\webroot\_vti_pvt folder (where webroot is the location of the Web server's root content and x is the drive where the Web server content resides).
- Create a backup copy of the Services.cnf file. To do this, rename Services.cnf to Services.old, and then save the file.
- Start Notepad, and then open the Services.cnf file.
- In the Services.cnf file, remove the entry for the subweb that was identified by the error message.
- Click Save on the File menu to save the file.
