FIX: "Update Index in Background" Option in Change Tracking May Not Work if Very Low Disk Space Detected (300217)

SYMPTOMS
SQL Server 2000 introduces the Change Tracking feature for updating full-text catalogs. When using this feature, you can choose to update the catalog in the background by selecting the Update Index in Background option; this will modify the catalog as soon as any changes are made to the table on which the full-text index exists.
However, if, for any reason, very low disk space (less than 2 MB) is detected, the Microsoft Search service is unable to proceed with the updates, and it pauses the process. After making the required disk space available, Microsoft Search resumes the process, but the Change Tracking feature never recovers. The full-text catalog properties Item Count, Catalog Size, and Unique Key Count are all set to zero.

STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in SQL Server 2000. This problem was first corrected in SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 1.
