OFFPP: You Are Unable to Use Office Personal Portfolio Outlook Stationery in Outlook 97 (300092)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio on a computer running Microsoft Outlook 97, you receive the following message:

Welcome!

The Installation Wizard will guide you through the process of installing Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio onto your computer. To start the installation process, click Next.

In order to use this program, you must have at least one Microsoft Office 97 or later program, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Outlook). If you haven't installed one or more of these Office applications, please install them after your Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio install is complete in order to take advantage of all the great templates.

Then, when you attempt to use Outlook Stationery, the following message and steps are displayed when you click the Outlook tab Outlook Stationery

Outlook Stationery must be accessed directly from Outlook. To use stationery in Outlook 98 or later, follow these steps:
  1. Start Outlook.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  3. Click the Mail Format tab.
  4. Under Message format, click HTML in the message format list.
  5. Under Stationery and Fonts, click Stationery Picker.
  6. Click the name of the stationery in the list you want to use.
  7. Click OK.
and you are unable to use Outlook Stationery in Outlook 97.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook Stationery is available for use only in Microsoft Outlook 98 or later.

WORKAROUND

To use Office Personal Portfolio Outlook Stationery, upgrade to Outlook 98 or later.
