OFFPP: Personal Portfolio Window Changes Color and Stops Responding After You Unlock the Computer (300091)

SYMPTOMS

When you press CTRL+ALT+DELETE and type your password to unlock your computer after you leave Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio running, the color of the Personal Portfolio window is different than it was before you locked your computer. When you click a category, the program stops responding (hangs).

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do one of the following:
  • Quit Personal Portfolio before you leave your computer unattended. The Screen Saver utility automatically locks the computer if the Password protected check box is selected in the Display Properties dialog box.

    -or-
  • Do not lock your computer, or allow the Screen Saver utility to lock it, when Personal Portfolio is still open. To turn off the Screen Saver password protection feature, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
    2. In Control Panel, double-click Display to open the Display Properties dialog box, and then click the Screen Saver tab.
    3. Click to clear the Password protected check box, and then click OK.

Steps to Reproduce the Problem

NOTE: These steps are provided to allow you additional insight into the behavior described in the "Symptoms" section of this article.
  1. Start Office Personal Portfolio.
  2. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  3. In Control Panel, double-click Display.
  4. In the Display Properties dialog box, click to select the Password protected check box on the Screen Saver tab to lock your workstation when it is left idle. Set the Wait box to 1 minute, and then click OK.
  5. Allow the screen saver to start.

    NOTE: Sometimes it is necessary to leave the computer in this state overnight to observe the behavior.
  6. Press the SPACEBAR to cancel the screen saver, and then press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. Type your password to unlock the computer, and then press ENTER.

    Notice that the color of the Personal Portfolio window has changed.
  7. Click any category.

    Notice that the program stops responding.
