OFFPP: Disk Space Is Not Completely Recovered When You Remove Personal Portfolio (300089)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio

This article was previously published under Q300089

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office Personal Portfolio, it may require more disk space than expected.

When you remove (uninstall) the installation by using the Add/Remove Programs utility, you may not recover all of the disk space.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the installation of Office Personal Portfolio includes the most recent version of Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5, as well as DirectX 8.0, Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC), and Windows Installer. These programs use the majority of the disk space required by the installation. These programs are not removed when Office Personal Portfolio is removed.
