"Fatal Exception 0E" Error Message When You Try to Connect to or Disconnect From the Internet (300029)

tested by Microsoft. Use only with discretion. SYMPTOMS When you attempt to connect to the Internet by using a
dial-up connection, you may receive an error message similar to one of the
following: Fatal Exception 0E has occurred at
0028:C00283FE in VXD VCOMM(01) +00000106 The current application will be
terminated. -or- Fatal Exception 0E has
occurred at 0028:C00283FE in VXD UNIMODEM(01) +00000106 The current
application will be terminated. You may then be unable to connect to
the Internet. -or- Fatal Exception 0E has
occurred at 0028:C02A7903 in VxD VCOMM(04)+00000E67 CAUSE This behavior can occur if both of the following conditions
are true:
- Quicken 2000 is installed on your computer.
-and- - You are attempting to connect to the Internet with a Compaq
USB modem.
NOTE: This behavior can also occur if the computer has one of the
following devices installed:
U.S. Robotics 56-Kbps External PnP modem
Lucent Wild Wire DSL Network adapter
U.S. Robotics 56-Kbps v-90 fax PCI modem
Lucent WinModem
RESOLUTION To work around this issue, uninstall Quicken 2000. For
information about how to uninstall Quicken 2000, consult your Quicken 2000
documentation or contact the manufacturer (Intuit Inc.).
