This article was previously published under Q300000 SYMPTOMS When you try to import data from the Microsoft Windows
Active Directory, you may receive the following error message:
Microsoft Active Directory is not installed. To continue,
please select another data source. CAUSE This issue may occur if you are using Microsoft Visio on a
Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer.
The issue
occurs because Windows Millennium Edition (Me) does not include the Active
Directory Client Extension product for use with the Microsoft Windows 2000
Active Directory service.RESOLUTION To work around this issue, install the Active Directory
Client Extension on the Windows Millennium Edition (Me)-based
computer. Although Windows Millennium Edition (Me) does not support
the Microsoft Windows 98 Active Directory Client Extension, nor does it include
the more advanced features that are available in Windows 2000 Professional, you
may be able to install the Active Directory Client Extension on a Windows
Millennium Edition (Me)-based computer for testing purposes. Note Microsoft provides this workaround for advanced users who
regularly test unsupported software configurations. For additional
