Element Length of Document Is Not Enforced in the BizTalk Server Messaging Engine (299766)

SYMPTOMS

When a document definition or schema specification defines an element that limits the length of the element to a minimum or maximum value, a document that violates the minimum or maximum value may not return an error during validation in the channel.

CAUSE

The document validation is passed to the Microsoft XML (MSXML) Document Object Model (DOM), and the DOM does not return an error. As a result, the BizTalk Server Messaging engine does not return an error.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next MSXML service pack that contains this hotfix.
