The network adapters that can be used as both coaxial and twisted-pair connections, or just coaxial connections, may be displayed as "media disconnected."
CAUSE
This problem can occur because of the driver requirements for the Media Sense feature, which is used for all network adapter and media types. If the driver, or the network adapter, does not support the Media Sense feature, the network adapter may be displayed as "media disconnected."
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, verify that the network adapter supports the Media Sense feature, and then obtain a new driver from the manufacturer that has the Media Sense feature included.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
