The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Greetings 2001
- Microsoft Picture It! Photo Premium 2001
This article was previously published under Q299413 SYMPTOMS In Microsoft Greetings 2001 or Microsoft PictureIt! Photo
Premium, the program may stop responding (hang or crash) when you click any
button on the blue editing bar. You may also receive an error message
similar to the following: Fatal Exception 0E has
occurred at memory_location CAUSE This behavior can be caused by an outdated video driver, or
by a video driver that is incompatible with Greetings 2001 or PictureIt! Photo
Premium.
NOTE: This behavior can also occur when you use a video driver that
has not been written specifically for your display adapter. RESOLUTION To troubleshoot this issue, restart your computer in Safe
mode, and then attempt to use the program in Safe mode. To do this, follow
these steps. Restart Your Computer in Safe Mode To restart your computer in Safe mode, use the appropriate method
for your version of Microsoft Windows. Microsoft Windows 2000- Shut down and then restart your computer.
- While your computer is starting, press F8 when the
following prompt is displayed at the bottom of the screen:
For troubleshooting and advanced startup options for Windows
2000, press F8. - Select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
Microsoft Windows 98 or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me)- Restart your computer.
- When the computer completes the Power On Self-Test (POST),
press and hold down the CTRL key until you see the Windows Startup menu.
- On the Windows Startup menu, select Safe Mode, and then press ENTER.
- When Windows starts in Safe mode, click OK.
Microsoft Windows 95- Restart your computer.
- When you see the "Starting Windows 95" message, press the
F8 key.

mode], and then press ENTER.
Your computer starts with minimal functionality (the display is
at its lowest resolution and has few colors). Start Greetings 2001 or
PictureIt! Publisher, and then test the functionality of the program. If the
program runs normally in Safe mode, you may need to update the display adapter
driver. If you are unable to obtain an updated driver for your
display adapter, reduce the hardware-acceleration setting of the display
adapter. To do this, follow these steps:
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click System.
- In the System Properties dialog box, click the Performance tab.
- Under Advanced settings, click Graphics.
- In the Advanced Graphics Settings dialog box, drag the Hardware acceleration
slider one position to the left of Full to select Most accelerator functions.
- Click OK, click Close, and then click Yes to restart the computer.
- Start Greetings 2001 or PictureIt! Publisher, and then test
the functionality of the program.
NOTE: If the issue persists, repeat steps 1 through 6 and drag the
Hardware acceleration slider further to the left each
time.
If the preceding steps do not resolve this issue, you may need
to obtain a different display adapter.
