Delay Write Operation May Not Work After You Eject Removable Media (298964)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional
This article was previously published under Q298964 SYMPTOMS When you eject removable media (such as from a
magneto-optical [MO] drive), you may receive the following error message:
The Delay Write operation failed.
CAUSE If you eject the removable media by using the eject button
after you access a file on that drive, Windows may try to update the last
access date information on the drive even though there is no media in the
drive. This causes the error message to appear. Even if the message appears,
the data in the file is not collapsed, but the last access date information is
not updated.
WORKAROUND To prevent this issue from occurring, do no eject removable
media shortly after accessing a file on the drive.
STATUSMicrosoft
has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed
at the beginning of this article.
