XADM: HTTP Logging on Exchange Virtual Servers Is Disabled After You Restart Your Computer (298843)

WORKAROUND

WARNING: If you use the ADSI Edit snap-in, the LDP utility, or any other LDAP version 3 client, and you incorrectly modify the attributes of Active Directory objects, you can cause serious problems. These problems may require you to reinstall Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server, or both. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems that occur if you incorrectly modify Active Directory object attributes can be solved. Modify these attributes at your own risk.

To work around this behavior, set the msExchLogType attribute value to 1. Note that this value always overwrites the logging level that IIS Manager sets after you restart the Exchange Server computer.

To enable HTTP logging:

1. Start the ADSI Edit snap-in from Microsoft Windows 2000 Support Tools.
2. Click to expand the Configuration container, click the Services container, and then click Microsoft Exchange.
3. Click Organization Name, click Administrative Groups, and then click First Administrative Group.
4. Click Servers, click Server Name, click Protocols, and then click HTTP.
5. Verify the correct virtual server. To do so, right-click the objects under the HTTP container, and then click Properties.
6. In the Select a Property to View box, click adminDisplayName.
   
   NOTE: You must change the name of this virtual server.
7. When you locate the correct HTTP virtual server, click msExchLogType in the Select a Property to View box.
8. In the Edit Attribute box, type either 1 to enable the value or type 0 to disable the value.
9. Click Set, and then click OK to close properties.
10. Close the ADSI Edit snap-in.

To permanently disable logging, change the value back to 0 by using the same procedure.
