FP2002: Closing a File Does Not Check in the File (298745)
The information in this article applies to:
- FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions from Microsoft
- SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft
This article was previously published under Q298745 For a Microsoft FrontPage 2000 version of this article, see 229559.
SYMPTOMS
When you close a file that is checked out from either a Microsoft FrontPage Web or a SharePoint team Web site that is using built-in version control, the file remains checked out. A Web administrator cannot check the file back in for you. The file remains checked out until you check it in.
CAUSE
The built-in source control in SharePoint Team Services and FrontPage 2002 is designed to be a light-weight source control solution.
To use advanced features, such as versioning and administration, use Microsoft Visual SourceSafe. For additional information about Visual SourceSafe, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
WORKAROUND
Manually check in the file. To do this, follow these steps:
- As an administrator, log on to the Web server locally.
- Run Windows NT Explorer and locate the folder containing the document that is checked out.
- Open the "_vti_cnf" subfolder of this folder.
- Locate the document that has the same name as the document that is checked out and open it in Notepad.
- Locate the following three lines and delete them:
- vti_sourcecontrolmultiuserchkoutby:
- vti_sourcecontrolcheckedoutby:
- vti_sourcecontroltimecheckedout:
- Save the file and close Notepad.
- If the Web is open in FrontPage, refresh the Web.
