About Visio Registry Entries

Visio uses the Windows registry to store user settings and other application-specific information. To keep the entries in the registry to a minimum, Visio automatically writes out those settings that are not default and a few others that are useful, such as, file paths, import and export filters, and last files.

You can include all possible settings in the Windows registry. To do this, follow these steps:

Start Visio.
On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Advanced tab.
Click to select the Put all settings in Windows registry check box.
Click OK.
Quit Visio.

In Visio, shape gallery provider settings are stored in the following registry subkeys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Visio\Shape Gallery

and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Visio\Shape Gallery\Providers\Visio Local Shapes

The Shape Gallery subkey contains state information that is specific to the Shape Gallery (Find Shape feature). The settings stored in this registry subkey provide Visio with Indexing information:

UpdateIndex

The Visio Local Shapes subkey stores a pointer to the ShapeGallery.mdb file.
