About Visio Registry Entries
Visio uses the Windows registry to store user settings and other
application-specific information. To keep the entries in the registry to
a minimum, Visio automatically writes out those settings that
are not default and a few others that are useful, such as,
file paths, import and export filters, and last files.
You can include all possible settings in the Windows registry. To do this, follow these steps:
- Start Visio.
- On the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the Advanced tab.
- Click to select the Put all settings in Windows registry check box.
- Click OK.
- Quit Visio.
In Visio, regional and drawing color settings are stored in the following registry subkey:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Visio\Colors
This article explains the settings stored in this subkey.

The Colors subkey contains entries you can set to fine-tune Visio
colors for a particular monitor, such as a gray scale monitor. The
format of the three numbers is (red,green,blue) where (0,0,0) is black
and (255,255,255) is white.
ColorConstant, ColorInherited, ColorNonConstant, and ColorTouched
These entries indicate various states in Windows 95 dialog boxes. If
Visio is running under Windows NT 3.51, these entries are ignored.

ColorConstant=0 0 255
The constant color in Visio.
ColorEmptyCell=255 255 255
The color of an empty cell in the ShapeSheet window.
ColorFullScreenBackground=0 0 0
The color of the screen background in full screen mode.
ColorGlueHighlight=255 0 0
The color of the Glue highlight.
ColorGridBackground=255 255 255
The background color used to draw grid lines.
ColorGridForeground=192 192 192
The foreground color used to draw grid lines.
ColorGroupBackground=255 255 192
The background color of the group editing window.
ColorGuideBackground=255 255 255
Guides are dithered so this is the background color used to draw guides.
ColorGuideForeground=0 0 255
Guides are dithered so this is the foreground color used to draw guides.
ColorManySelect=255 0 255
The color used when many items are selected.
ColorMasterName=0 0 0
The color of the label text if a master is not selected in the stencil
window.
ColorMasterNameBackground=128 255 128
The background color for the label text if the master is not selected in
the stencil window.
ColorNameCellLabel=255 0 0
The color of text in a name cell in the ShapeSheet window.
ColorNonPageGradEnd=0 204 204
Color for the 'top' part of the paste board gradient (for example, light blue).
ColorNonPageGradStart=192 255 255
Color for the 'bottom' part of the paste board gradient (for example, dark blue).
ColorPage=255 255 255
The color of the drawing page.
ColorPageBorder=0 0 0
The color of the page border.
ColorPreviewBackground=128 128 128
The background color of the print preview window.
ColorPrimary=0 255 0
The color of the selection box for the primary selection.

The color of the ruler label.

The color of the selection box for the secondary selection.

The color of label text when a master is selected in the stencil window.

The background color of the label text if a master is selected in the
stencil window.

Same as ColorNonPageGradEnd, but deals with stencil window (light green).

Same as ColorNonPageGradStart, but deals with stencil window (dark green).

The color of a sub selected group.

The color of a value cell in the ShapeSheet window.
